About Kujukushima Zoo & Botanical Garden Mori Kirara

In Showa 36 year as the Sasebo city subtropical botanical garden and opened.
Because is at the Ishidake mountain hillside, so is given the name 「Ishidake Zoo & Botanical Garden」by the public.
Heisei 23 year, the park opened 50 anniversary as an opportunity to change its name to Sakai National Park Kujukushima Zoo & Botanical Garden, the same year in July given「Mori Kirara」 the lovely name.
Located in the west of the center of Sasebo city, there are giraffe and other animals in the spacious garden overlooking Kujukushima. Ornamental greenhouse and gardens are full of plants. In the blooming season, the rose-scented rose garden is also very famous.
The new「 penguin tank」, built in the 26th year of the Heisai era, features the largest patio sink in Japan, a 4-meter deep sink, and a shallow water tank with a close-up view of the penguins’ feet.

April 1958 (Showa 33)
The commencement. Former quarters for workers of Japanese naval installations.
May 25, 1961 (Showa 36)
The opening. As Nagasaki, Saga two prefectures in the first true sense of the botanical garden and got popular.
July 24, 2010 (Heisei 22)
At the beginning of the park, the total number of participants exceeded 10 million.
April 1, 2011 (Heisei 23)
Renamed Sakai National Park Kujukushima Zoo & Botanical Garden.
July 17, 2011 (Heisei 23)
Through open recruitment, the name was identified as Mori Kirara.
January 2, 2014 (Heisei 26)
A new facility「 The penguin tank」was opened.
May 28, 2014 (Heisei 26)
Announced that amur leopard cat was successfully bred.
